Lynnwood, WA - week 10 (May 13 - May 19)

I'm behind in posting, and I apologize!  I received Chris's update on May 25 (the update that covers through May 19) but we were on vacation, and I didn't take the time to post.  Sorry!  :-(

I didn't receive an update covering the 20th - 26th, so we'll see what comes today or during this week.

Chris and his companion had a baptism on May 25.  Taitus & Juliana's daughter, Tiana, was baptized, and we hope that his update for that week will include more information.  Here is some info about LDS baptisms and confirmations.  After a person is baptized (by full immersion), they are confirmed (given a blessing) as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  You can click the link for more information.  Chris was the person that confirmed Tiana.  He quickly mentioned in a note last week that she is an inspiration to her family.  That's sweet...she's 9.

So, here's the update with the weekly disclaimer:  italicized comments are mine.  Links are attached either per Chris's request, or because it's LDS lingo and may need an explanation.

Thank you for reading, and for supporting Chris.  He is truly loving his time in WA, and even though we miss him tons (TONS!), it's so great to see him happy and doing what he feels is right.  Please continue to write to him (address on the far right), as snail mail makes his day even better!  :-)

P-day:  we did the usual emails, shopping and lunch.  Got a haircut this week...that was fun!  (seriously, my son makes everything fun!)  We wrote letters and stopped by Taitus's place.  We didn't get to help with homework but we did get to stop by.  We had dinner with the Thompson's.  Brother Thompson is the 1st Counselor in the Bishopric and ALWAYS backs us up in meetings and...he's pretty much just an awesome guy!  After that we had a great lesson with the Shaw family.  We read Alma chapter 14.  It was an altogether great day.

We had a crazy day and tons of fun! We had "finding time" in the morning, dinner with the Cheney Family, and I had sloppy joes!!  Missed that from back home!  (he didn't mention that I only know how to make about 8 things, and sloppy joes is one of them)  We had an AWESOME lesson with the Moli family!  It's been nice to be with them!  I love them so much!  Then we exchanged with the zone leaders and Elder Choate who came here to Lynnwood.  I need to go back to the Moli family.  We challenge all of our investigators who are in school to read part of the Book of Mormon before they study and if they pray before they read and before they take the test, and ask specifically for help to remember what you studied, you WILL get an A.  And it happened!  So, if you want to take the challenge:  I challenge all who are in school to read the Book of Mormon and pray before you study and before you take the test, pray for guidance and to remember what you studied and you will get an A!  (Sure, he sends this AFTER school is out for the year.  Well, for everyone except me!  I start June 9, so I will put this challenge to the test!  Who's with me!?)

We had FIVE lessons today!  We started with Jason and talked to him about Mosiah chapters 11 - 13.  This talks about a wicked King named Noah and a prophet named Abinadi.  That was a fun lesson.  (Abinadi's story is one of my favorite.  Just sayin'.)  After that we had some fun with Taitus's family and went over some questions to see if they are ready for baptism and they are!  After that we had a pretty good lesson with the Horner's (Aaron & Siobahn).  They fed us dinner too!  After that we went over to the Elders and had Root Beer Floats and talked with Steve and he said that he is willing to "try the seed out" (Alma 32).  In other words, he is willing to give the gospel a true chance. After that we went to Wendy and Alex's house and talked about agency.  Lots of fun!!  After that we came back and switched back companions.  Pretty good day with hitting the goals we set!!  :-)

You can click the link to read Mosiah 11, and then go to the "next" to read chapters 12 & 13: http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/mosiah/11?lang=eng
Here's a link to a 3 min video of Abinadi:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jfZD10hhtk

And, a link to Alma 32.  Alma was a prophet who teaches about faith, and how faith is like a seed.  If we plant that seed and nurture it, it will grow.  http://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/32?lang=eng

We had a zone conference today.  So, 1 companionship covers one ward (congregation) which is geographically set. Then there are 3 - 5 companionships in a district, and 2 or 3 more districts in a zone.  So today, for zone conference, we had 3 zones!  It was a fun conference and we had some good training!  After that we had a few lessons.  Taitus's family had to reschedule for tomorrow, so that is good..we will see them tomorrow.  We had a meeting with some ward members then dinner with Eric, Willy & Mino.  SO delicious!  After that we had a great lesson with Jacob Bradley.  Very very good day!!

Today we had a great lesson with Troy (a recent convert) and a good lesson with Ken Edwards, and then after that, Sister Shibata.  (I don't know who Ken or Sister Shibata are...maybe he'll fill us in)  We had tons of fun with Taitus's family tonight!  We also visited a potential investigator who was really nice to us and took a Book of Mormon.  After that we visited a less active family then had dinner with a new couple that just moved into the ward, the Kelly's.  We had burgers with melted cheese cooked inside!  LOVED it!  After that we met a cool guy who's boss is Mormon.

We had a fun mini-lesson today with a new investigator named Shandell.  Tons of "finding time" today.  We went to the YW (young women's - girls group ages 12 - 18) fund raiser today.  They were having a garage sale for their camp expenses.  Then we had a good dinner with Brother Russell -- teriyaki burgers! Both of our lessons after that cancelled, but it's all good.  We had the time to find other people and visited some families.  Least amount of lessons taught today for the week, but it's still all good.

Good Sunday today!  Very good meetings, great talks in Sacrament Meeting and an awesome dinner with the Burt family: cheesy potatoes, broccoli, and boneless chicken strips.  They are such a funny couple and their kids are a little crazy but SO nice.  We met a potential named Ian tonight.  Thankfully, I was taught early in life that you cannot judge someone based on their appearance.  You have to get to know a person, and then still shouldn't judge but you know what I mean. Can't judge a book by it's cover.  Good thing because Ian has sleeves of tattoos, piercings in his nose and ears, a lumberjack beard and was really stocky.  Anyway, he was also VERY kind and so great to talk to, and wants to learn more about the gospel!  It will be fun to meet with him!
